Similar species: Common Cattail (Typha latifolia) - Leaves are very similar, but lacks the showy yellow flowers. Narrow-leaved Cattail (Typha angustifolia) - Leaves much narrower, and lacks the showy yellow flowers. Blue Flag Iris (Iris versicolor) - Much smaller plant, has blue flowers.
