Bladderwort Family (Lentibulariaceae)
These unusual plants are actually carnivorous, feeding upon tiny organisms in the water. They are called Bladderworts because they have minute bladders along their roots (or separate from the roots on their own stalks). These bladders, when triggered by a tiny animal (almost microscopic) touches the bladder. The bladder pops open in, sucks in the animal, and snaps shut again, all in a fraction of a second. The tiny creature is then digested by the plant.
Bladderworts grow in water, often in bogs and fens, but sometimes just in water. Most species have striking yellow flowers.
