Similar species: Bristly Wild Gooseberry (Ribes oxyacanthoides) - stem covered with numerous soft prickles, with a few stouter prickles at leaf nodes. Wild Gooseberry (Ribes hirtellum) - stems smooth, with 1-2 spines at leaf nodes, berries lack prickles .
