Distinctive features:
Small yellow flowers; grows in the woods.
Similar species: Catlings Avens (Geum X catlingii) - Sparser and paler yellow flowers. Stem thinner. White Avens (Geum canadense) - White flowers. Wood Avens (Geum urbanum) - Has large stipules surrounding the stem. Stem is thinner. Water Avens (Geum rivale) - The flowers are very different.
