Distinctive features: Small yellow flowers; grows in the woods.

Similar species:
  •   Catlings Avens (Geum X catlingii) - Sparser and paler yellow flowers. Stem thinner.

  •   White Avens (Geum canadense) - White flowers.

  •   Wood Avens (Geum urbanum) - Has large stipules surrounding the stem. Stem is thinner.

  •   Water Avens (Geum rivale) - The flowers are very different.

Leaves: Alternate, Toothed

Habitat: Forests, Fields and Open Areas

Note that the stipules of Yellow Avens are much smaller than those of Wood Avens (Geum urbanum). This is a distinguishing feature.
