Other common names: Common Avens Other scientific names: Geum canadense, Geum strictum French names: Benoîte d'Alep Family: Rose Family (Rosaceae) Group: Avens Distinctive features: Small yellow flowers; grows in the woods. Similar species:   •   Catlings Avens (Geum X catlingii) - Sparser and paler yellow flowers. Stem thinner.   •   White Avens (Geum canadense) - White flowers.   •   Wood Avens (Geum urbanum) - Has large stipules surrounding the stem. Stem is thinner.   •   Water Avens (Geum rivale) - The flowers are very different.
